A few days ago I had to dress up for work. So I put on black pants, a black buton-down, black shoes, and a black tie. A co-worker told me that I looked like "the angel of death". Nice to know that I can fit in with corporate America and still look the way I like. :)

Re: Business Gothic?
Tue, January 16, 2007 - 6:54 PMI work in an office now, a far cry from the hippie-esque computer retail place I used to work, and I often wear black all the time. I've been slowly starting to wear my gothier accessories, I find that slow is a good way to bring it on if you have to work there all the time. they're kinda accepting that way. (note the kinda - still freaks out the more normal of the normals)
Glad that you got such great comments on your outfit! -

Re: Business Gothic?
Sun, January 28, 2007 - 4:41 PMA black skirt and a waist cincher can look very business-like and corporate if you wear them the right way. My pinstripe fishtail skirt even got compliments! The most I've been able to wear accessory-wise has been my little sterling-silver ankh pendant, though, since anything more ostentatious than that- my chokers and the like- would be breaching dress code.

Sun, January 28, 2007 - 11:00 PMI work in a museum. Fortunately, I work in the basement with the records, so I can get away with a lot more than I would if I were trying to raise money. Still, people love it when I wear my Victorian-inspired clothing and my big stompy boots. I think they like seeing someone get away with something a little bit different... -

Re: Business Gothic?
Mon, January 29, 2007 - 1:57 AMI have a pinstriped suit, though it is a little uncomfortable. I wear a black velvet suit to work, usualy with a frily shirt. First thing in the morning I don't have much time to decide what to wear.

Mon, January 29, 2007 - 3:26 AMi love the way a lot of places will have dress codes that almost endorse goth clothing. I worked at a place where the dress code was no t-shirts, no jeans, and no tennis shoes.. so i took it as far as it could go boots corsets button up shirts hahahaha. as long as it wasn't revieling sp? they couldn't really say anything. of course it was a temporary situation and i was not looking to get promoted.

Re: Business Gothic?
Mon, January 29, 2007 - 8:20 AMIt's so amazing to me how "normal" people respect me when I choose to be myself. I love it! My boyfriend has to wear a suit to work, so he's usually in a velvet blazer, black shirt, red/purple/black/etc. tie, and his awesome italian shoes. People love the way he dresses! -

Mon, January 29, 2007 - 3:15 PMI wear my black lacey odd bits and ends all the time. I even enjoy boots in the summertime. My co-workers don't take pride in themselves or their apprearances . They slop around in sweat pants all the time, while I wear black dress suits and boots. I am prouably the most professional looking person in the office. They just hate me for it too.

Re: Business Gothic?
Sat, February 10, 2007 - 8:34 AMGood for you. My partner and I have chosen to maintain our Gothic look but to adapt it somewhat to corporate America, and with a Goth's natural creativity and expressiveness, it is possible. I work as dept. chair at a technical college, so my black suits fit right in. . . sometimes I get stares from odd boots or long flowing skirts here in Central Arkansas. My guy wears the black suit, black tie, black shoes and gets similar remarks as the one you mentioned. But, I've found if I'm not violating corporate dress code, and I do great work, then what can they say? I'm usually the best dressed person on campus (lol).

Sat, February 10, 2007 - 12:29 PMThe other day, I was wearing a black (with tiny grey stripes) button-down with a black tie as well, I've been complimented by my boss on how well dressed I was...it was freaky to see a suburban guy in his fifties say that...
