Hi -
Just found this tribe, and wanted to introduce myself.
I am the proprietoress of Gorey Details
www.goreydetails.net
We're having an intimate little soiree here in Portland, OR
in honor of Edward Gorey's birthday on Feb.22nd.
(If you're in the area and would like an invitation,
please contact me)
If you'd care to share any ideas that you may have
to help make this shindig as Gorey-esque as possible,
we'd really appreciate it!
Activities, food, decor, etc.
(I've got prizes and favors covered, I think :)

Re: Edward Gorey's Birthday Party - any ideas?
Sat, February 3, 2007 - 11:43 AMWow! I have loved your site for years and visit it often! Welcome to the tribe.
I wish I was in the area, I'd would have loved to attend... :(
A bit of personal Gorey trivia; I remember owning, as a child, the Gorey illustrated "Rumplestiltskin." I remember being to drawn to, and fascinated by the artwork, that even after I got too old to read the book I would look at it for the illustrations. Anyway, the book probably got tossed, but for years I tried to find a replacement; which I finally did just a few months back on eBay! Hooray for me! -

Tue, February 13, 2007 - 11:08 PMHi! Nice to meet you!
I have that book, and know what you mean about the illustrations.
I knew of Gorey from his illustrations for other author's books
long before I was introduced to anything he actually wrote himself.
Congrats on scoring a copy!

Re: Edward Gorey's Birthday Party - any ideas?
Sat, February 3, 2007 - 4:01 PMoo that sounds so fun, wish I lived there. I love your store :-D
hmm - how many people will be there? maybe a Gashlycrumb Tinies game?
You could print each of them out and every guest who joins the party gets one pinned to their back.
The goal of the game is to talk to people and guess which Gashlycrumb death you've died, it could be a fun icebreaker.
you certainly could have a dramatic friend do a reading
as far as decor goes - black and white theme maybe with a splash of red? you could blow up some of your favorite images (like his bats) and hang them. Also this pop-up stage would be pretty neat: www.amazon.com/Edward-Gor...952-4757706
Somehow Gorey reminds me of tea type fair - but am not sure what time a day your event is set for. -

Tue, February 13, 2007 - 11:11 PMGreat suggestions - thanks!
I forgot about the splash of red - excellent touch!
The Dracula Theater is an item we sell on the site.
I hadn't thought about setting one of them up,
but that's a great idea!
