Hey everyone!
I'm making the "bat shawl" out of "Not Another Teen Knitting Book" and am having issues w/my math. Would those of you who knit give me some assistance in this issue if it makes sense?
Here's my issue -
How many sts does the following row create?
k1, m1, (k1, m1, k9, ssk, s2kpo, k2tog, k9, m1, k1, yo, k2, yo) 3 times; k1, m1, k9, ssk, s2kpo, k2tog, k9, (m1, k1) 2 times?
Here's what I get (and it's been a different number each time):
k1, m1= 3 sts
k1, m1, k9, ssk, s2kpo, k2tog, k9, m1, k1, yo, k2, yo= 30 sts (times 3 = 90 sts) (93 sts)
k1= 1 st (94 sts)
m1= 2 sts (96 sts)
k9= 9 sts (105 sts)
ssk= 1 st (106 sts)
sk2po= 1 st (107 sts)
k2tog= 1 st (108 sts)
k9= 9 sts (116 sts)
m1, k1= 3 sts (times 2= 6 sts) (122 sts)
This is really confusing for me as 116 sts are CO when the project begins, and the amount of sts doesn't change until row 22 where there is a marked 8 st reduction. The pattern I have says I should have 108 sts at the end of row 22... Which would work fine if from the beginning of the pattern on I had 116 sts!

Re: Goth knitting assistance needed...
Fri, January 18, 2008 - 1:01 PMOddly enough, I counted 127 sts on that.
Which still doesn't give you the decrease that you need.
Have you maybe gone to the publishers or the books website to see if there is any errata or corrections on that pattern? Perhaps a line was missed during printing?
There is nothing worse than working a pattern and then having to frog out over 1k in sts because someone else screwed up.
Next question.... This sounds like a fairly lacey kind of pattern... Are you running a rescue line with it? -

Fri, January 18, 2008 - 1:07 PMk1, m1, =2 sts
(k1, m1, k9, ssk, s2kpo, k2tog, k9, m1, k1, yo, k2, yo) 3 times; (23x3= 69sts)
k1, m1, k9, ssk, s2kpo, k2tog, k9, (m1, k1) 2 times? (21x2= 42 sts)
2+69= 71 sts
71+42= 113 sts total...
I had to recount that was bugging me.. That still isn't right. -

Re: Goth knitting assistance needed...
Fri, January 18, 2008 - 4:20 PMHeh... Yeah this is not a nice pattern so far! There is errata on this pattern, but it only has to do with a typo when it comes to lines 8 and 10. I retyped the pattern w/the corrections put in... *le sigh* I'm thinking about contacting either the publishing company or trying to get word to Vicky Howell to see if there's a fix.

*le sigh*

Re: Goth knitting assistance needed...
Mon, April 7, 2008 - 12:37 PMhave you checked the website for errata? UNfortunately, knitting books are notirious for publishing MANY errors, often in one page. I bet if you check the website, theres an errata page for mistakes in printing. :) good luck!
